The Panthers beat the New York Jets 35-27 at MetLife Stadium, sparked by two touchdowns in a three minute span, neither of which came from the offense. Luke Kuechly returned a Josh McCown 34 yards for a touchdown and Kaelin Clay followed that three plays later with the Panthers’ first punt return touchdown since October of 2014. Rookie running back Christian McCaffrey continued to develop, contributing 119 all-purpose yards and his longest rush of the season, a 40-yard burst in the second quarter that led to a Graham Gano field goal.
As Cam Newton put it after the game, “It wasn’t a blockbuster outing offensively for us, statistics wise, but at the end of the day, we found ways to win the football game and that’s what you have to have.”
