After the game in Chicago, we had a chance to speak to cornerback Kevon Seymour, who had rotated snaps in previous weeks with Daryl Worley but only played three snaps against the Bears. Unfortunately, one of those snaps was a 70-yard pass from Mitchell Trubisky to fellow rookie Tarik Cohen. Read his thoughts below.

Obviously, a disappointing loss today, can you talk about your feelings after the game?

“Definitely left a lot of plays out on the field as a team, you can’t do that in this league if you want to win.”

The team hasn’t had an interception since Week 1, how do you as a defense try to move forward and start forcing those turnovers?

“Just play fast, when the ball’s in the air, compete for the ball; when we’ve got a chance to make a play on the ball, you’ve got to make that play. And then once one comes, you know, they’re gonna follow.”

How does it feel to see that you come out with a loss after the defense dominates like they did?

“We played alright. We could have played better, especially in the secondary. Myself, alone, just giving up that deep pass, but it happens. It’s the nature of the game, especially when you’re playing DB [defensive back], you’ve got to have a short-term memory and keep playing.”

Can you talk through that deep pass?

“He just hit me with a double move, I should have stayed high and forced him inside to my help, it was a heck of throw-and-catch, so from there, I was like ‘I’ve got to stop him from scoring.’ To give our offense a chance if they come with three instead of six or seven.”

After allowing a play like that, what goes through your head?

“Next play mentality. I’ve been playing this position for a while now and especially in this league, you’ve just got to have that next play mentality. When that happened, it’s like ‘Alright, get him down.’ I got him down. Next play. You’ve just got to forget about it. Of course, when you go to the sideline, coaches say ‘You’ve got to do this better, this and that.’ But you’ve got to have that next play mentality and X out all the noise.”

The coaches are looking for either you or Worley to separate from each other, what do you think you need to do to separate yourself?

“Honestly, right now it’s not about us. They’re positioning us as competing or splitting time, we’ve just to make plays, man. The more plays we make as individuals will help the team, So we’re not even, honestly, not even thinking about it. We just want to limit the mistakes so we can win, so we can get to the bigger picture.”
