On Friday afternoon, the search for a Panthers general manager continues to heat up following the announcement that interim GM Marty Hurney has been reinstated. Following a league investigation, no evidence was found that Hurney violated the league’s personal conduct policy after recent harassment complaints by his ex-wife. Hurney was placed on paid leave by the team on February 4th pending the league’s investigation.
Now reinstated, Hurney remains a top candidate to land the GM job, although the Panthers have also interviewed Bills assistant college scouting director, Lake Dawson, multiple times, in addition to Texans assistant general manager, Jimmy Raye III, and 49ers senior personnel executive, Martin Mayhew.
With the general manager search running in parallel with the team’s search for a team owner, the Panthers have had quite an eventful offseason already as they head towards free agency and the NFL draft with their top executive positions still vacant; decisions are coming down the pike sooner rather than later as teams can place the franchise tag on players beginning as soon as Tuesday.
