Cam Newton is BACK at Panthers practice – at least, somewhat.

While the Panthers have already announced that Kyle Allen, winner of five straight starts, will start their Week 8 matchup with San Francisco, the Panthers welcomed back their franchise quarterback to the practice field this week, where’s he’s worked on the side with trainers doing calisthenics and dynamic stretches which appear to focus on his foot – he’s still working his way back from a Lisfranc injury aggravated in Week 2 – while the rest of the team practices on opposite fields.

But Cam is still Cam, cracking jokes throughout the open portion of practice – he referred to the workout area today as “Muscle Beach Resorts & Suites” and was quizzing reporters on who had the most Twitter followers – as he was put through the paces by trainers under the watchful eye of Ryan Vermillion and other trainers.

“So far, so good,” when Ron Rivera was asked about Newton’s rehab after practice.

The Panthers quarterback worked next to two edge rushers – Christian Miller, who missed Week 6 in London with an ankle injury, and Brian Burns, who had a minor wrist procedure during the bye but seems bullish on his prospects to play on Sunday. Dennis Daley, who has started the past two games at left tackle with Greg Little still in the concussion protocol, also worked on the side – but that may have been more the team being careful with him than anything else – especially since it appears he’ll be starting at left tackle again in San Francisco against one of the best defensive lines in the league.

“Today was just going a little bit further in the direction of precaution,” said Rivera. “We’ve got a couple of extra days [and] we got some work out of him yesterday, so today’s one of those days where I think rest is probably one of the best things for it.”

But, overall, the Panthers injury report is starting to clear up – at least for now.

“You just never know,” said Rivera. “That’s kind of the nature of the game and we’ll see how everybody feels tomorrow morning.”
