Tre Boston
The Panthers clearly made a mistake releasing Boston last offseason as he went on to have a good year in San Diego; however, while he did put up impressive numbers there, his larger sample size in Carolina before that showed both flashes of brilliance as well as mental blunders. Boston is expected to sign for over $8m per year (via Spotrac) based on his 2017 play and while it is hard to deny that he earned that payday, that might be a somewhat inflated valuation compared to his true worth. If he is willing to take a discount to return to Carolina, that might be more reasonable, but is likely more of a longshot at this point.
Kenny Vaccaro
While his rookie tape was extremely promising, Vaccaro has never quite been the same since his injury that season, and his early exit due to injury last season should have teams concerned about how reliable his contribution might be moving forward. As with the likes of Teddy Bridgewater and Allen Robinson, it is hard to judge just how much money he might attract on the open market coming off an injury, but the hope of a return to that pre-injury form could well lead him to being overpaid this offseason. At the right price, he could offer a long-shot at a star safety, but does come with a sizable risk.
