The Philadelphia Eagles announced late Sunday afternoon that they have released former Panthers cornerback Daryl Worley after Worley reportedly had a run-in with Philadelphia police early Sunday morning that ended with the 23-year old Philly native being tasered and arrested. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport, Worley was arrested at 6a at the corner of Broad and Pattison in Philadelphia after he was allegedly found passed out inside a vehicle which was blocking a highway near the Eagles’ team facilities; according to reports, police used a tasered on Worley after he was combative and a gun was recovered on the scene.

The Eagles released a statement earlier on Sunday that said they were “gathering more information” about the arrest, but eventually decided to release the mercurial cornerback who was traded earlier in the offseason for wide receiver Torrey Smith. This would not be the first incident involving the police for Worley, who pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault after a 2014 nightclub altercation with a woman; Worley served community service in lieu of a six-month jail sentence and that incident was expunged from his record before the Panthers selected him in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Worley started 11 games as a rookie and recorded a single interception before splitting time last season with late preseason acquisition Kevon Seymour, who was acquired ahead of Week 1 from the Buffalo Bills. The trade of Worley early last month was surprising for many Panthers fans and players, but multiple sources familiar with the situation told The Riot Report that Worley had off-the-field struggles with alcohol throughout his two years with the club.

The Eagles were due to begin their off-season workout program on Monday; Worley had two years remaining on his contract and was due to make $670,000 in 2018.
