We get it. The Panthers lost to the Saints; you wanted to take a few weeks off to recover and not think about football, certainly not while the Eagles and Patriots are playing in the Super Bowl. Maybe you wanted to take your kids to go apple picking, or sledding, or you just wanted to turn your attention to college basketball. January 7: Panthers lose to the New Orleans Saints 31-26 in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

January 9: Offensive Coordinator Mike Shula and QB Coach Ken Dorsey are relieved of duties.

January 11: Panthers hire Norv Turner to be offensive coordinator, Scott Turner to be QB Coach.

January 12: Thomas Davis announces on NFL Network that 2018 will be his final season.

January 18: Chase Blackburn is promoted to Special Teams Coordinator, replacing Thomas McGaughey, who goes to the New York Giants.

January 22: Steve Wilks is hired to be the Head Coach of the Arizona Cardinals, Defensive Line Coach Eric Washington is promoted to Defensive Coordinator of the Panthers.

January 26: Panthers hire former Seahawks coach Heath Farwell as assistant special teams coordinator.

January 27: Panthers hire former Air Force defensive coordinator Steve Russ as linebackers coach, replacing Al Holcomb, who joined Steve Wilks in Arizona as defensive coordinator.

January 29: Interior lineman Greg Van Roten, a potential restricted free agent, resigns with the team until 2019.

January 29: Panthers hire former University of Michigan Head Coach Brady Hoke as defensive line coach.

January 30: Ryan Kalil announces in an interview with The Charlotte Observer that 2018 will be his final season.

January 31: Former Panthers player Travelle Wharton is announced as assistant offensive line coach, assisting run game coordinator John Matsko, who will remain on staff.

February 7: The Panthers place Interim General Manager Marty Hurney on paid leave as the NFL investigates him for alleged harassment. 

February 10: Julius Peppers undergoes successful shoulder surgery.

February 16: Marty Hurney is reinstated as interim general manager as NFL finds he did not violate the league’s personal conduct policy.

February 21: Marty Hurney is officially named the new(ish) general manager of the Carolina Panthers.

February 26: In a salary cap saving move, the Panthers release S Kurt Coleman and DE Charles Johnson.

February 28: The Panthers release RB Jonathan Stewart.

March 6: The Panthers sign K Graham Gano to a four-year, $17m contract.

March 9: The Panthers agree in principle to trade CB Daryl Worley to Philadelphia for WR Torrey Smith.

March 9: The Panthers tendered offers to Tyler Larsen, Chris Manhertz, Damiere Byrd and Michael Palardy, essentially ensuring the four players will be under contract for 2018.

March 13: Panthers agree in principle to a deal with Bashaud Breeland, cornerback formerly of the Washington Redskins. The deal is said to be for three years/$24m but cannot be signed until free agency opens officially Wednesday at 4PM.

March 14: Julius Peppers signs a one-year/$5m deal to return for his 17th season.

March 16: Panthers sign nose tackle Dontari Poe to a three-year/$27m deal to replace Star Lotulelei in the middle of the defensive line.

March 16: Bashaud Breeland fails his physical and will not sign with the team.
